MISSION STATEMENT
Central Coast Baby Ballet is dedicated to providing the highest quality Dance Education for Children (from 18 months).
The Central Coast Baby Ballet Program for Toddlers and Pre-School Children is a unique Program that provides enjoyable and ordered learning experiences in preparation for continued training in the areas of Ballet and Dance.
Overwhelming data shows that students who participate in the arts are more successful academically and socially as members of their communities.
Our Aims
• To encourage and guide participation in the program. The level of participation varies with different children over different time periods but with usual success.
• To develop a range of skills including self expression, self confidence and the ability to follow set tasks and directions, as a prerequisite for Pre-School and Kindergarten.
• To prepare for and engage in creative movement and dance, music appreciation, and social interaction.
• To introduce a variety of progressive, fun and stimulating activities and themes throughout the program.
• To encourage consistency in attendance and punctuality.
• To engage in quality teaching that provides individual learning. Initially, classes may consist of small numbers which will allow your child to develop skills on a one to one basis.
• To build leadership skills and confidence in larger class settings

Baby Ballet (3 to 4 years)
Commenced Term 1 2010
The Central Coast Baby Ballet Program was designed by Kim Barker and developed to help young dancers prepare for formal ballet classes.
The Program encourages creativity, self-expression, and fundamental movement skills.
The exercises and fun activities are educational as well as providing consistency and structure.
The lessons are designed developmentally for 3 to 5 year old boys and girls.
The curriculum combines RAD syllabus with free exercises and class activities to develop creativity and the acquisition of ballet technique appropriate for the age and development of the dancer. Free movement also introduces classical ballet with a more relaxed approach and is a wonderful tool for developing creativity in children. Character and Free Movement methods are also great fun for the students.
Class Description:
In this introduction to the fundamentals of ballet, young children learn basic ballet steps while developing balance, coordination and confidence. They will explore the tremendous movement possibilities of their bodies--running, jumping, bending, stretching, exploring contrasting movement dynamics and qualities, doing their own movements and dancing with others-- while developing the skills needed for more formal ballet study. To keep the children's imaginations engaged and help develop English skills, many exercises use stories, songs and images. Let your child become a fairy, a dinosaur, a swan, or a butterfly, while learning basics of ballet!
Kinder Ballet (5 to 6 years) - Commenced Term 1 2011
Teachers: Kim Barker and Charlotte Barker.
Provides a strong foundation for future dance training that is appropriate and relevant to young children of today.
Class Structure is similar to Baby Ballet with more advanced exercises to develop students physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression
and musicality using a range of sounds and musical styles.
Grade 1 Ballet (6 to 7 years) - Commencing Term 1 2012
Class sizes are limited to 10-15 students per class to maximize each child's development.
The weekly class runs for 30 or 45 minutes and classes follow goverment school term dates. We share the same term holidays and our classes begin and end at the same time in the year as the government schools.
Trial Classes are fun and relaxed and designed to give prospective students and parents an insight into our classes.
Please Note Photography or videos are not permitted at Trial Classes.

Teacher's Credentials
The teacher with the most glamourous and prestigious performing credentials may or may not be the best teacher. The ability to dance brilliantly is different from the skills that make a great teacher: the ability to analyze, to break down steps, to explain, to inspire. Some people possess both performing and teaching abilities, some don't. Teachers who have studied with the R. A. D. or the Cecchetti Council of America know a particular syllabus with a track record of producing well-trained dancers.
Supporting your budding dancer
Educating children should not be just about preparing them for future employment, the child should also be exposed to experiences that will develop them emotionally and physically and enrich their ability to express themselves. Dance in particular helps to fulfil these needs by developing qualities and abilities that have very practical applications. Qualities such as grace, co-ordination and poise. Dance is also an excellent recreational activity with the added advantage of helping to develop well shaped, strong bodies.
Young girls and boys are mainly attracted to dance because of the joy of moving to music, but they gain much more. Dance develops grace, poise, balance, and a high degree of co-ordination learnt through self-discipline. This gives the student a heightened physical awareness and a respect for their “instrument” the human body.
Because the arts are neglected in most Australian schools this important side of the child’s education is usually left to the parent. Luckily dance is very popular in Australia and dance schools can be found in most areas. The biggest problem the parent will have is deciding between the styles taught in these schools – Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Musical Theatre Dance, Tap Dance and Ballroom are just a few of the most popular.
The vital link in the success of any attempt to educate the young and developing student is the teacher, which means that after the style of technique is decided upon, the choice of school is of absolute importance. If there is more than one dance school in your area, ask the principal of each school whether you and your child can observe a class. This will allow you to gauge how the school is run. Apart from having a caring approach to the training of the students, the school should be well appointed and observe safe-dance practices. The level of discipline in the class should enable the smooth running of the lesson but not be so strict as to stifle creativity.
If possible it is also wise to attend a performance given by the school under consideration. Like students, schools have different qualities and philosophies, which means they set their sights on different goals. The dancers who graduate from the school will display the values of that school, such as the different qualities they emphasise and the effectiveness of their training system. Good dancers at a school are not only an indication of the school’s merit, but they are also an inspiration to the other students in the classes. They help to create an atmosphere that stimulates artistic growth.
A final word. The quality of the teaching is more important than the system of dance taught. Today, good teaching practice aims to utilise the students’ natural enthusiasm, and their need to be constantly challenged, to make their mastery of movement from the simplest to the most demanding a rewarding task. A good teacher transmits to their students their obviously love of dance, and the rewards are students who not only gain high exam marks but who also enjoy dancing and can communicate that enjoyment.

10 Great Reasons to Learn Ballet
Top Tips from Mums!!!
don't have thing that other mum that will do but for me ..my tip as long she enjoy the classes we will keep coming..I don't expect her to be a prima ballerina one day (it be good if she does) but seeing her love & have the passion to learn & interact with other children (her social skill),she had the potential to be a great person when she grow up!!!
Raquel Tingzon Sonter
When doing a ballet bun in your little ones hair put the hair up in a ponytail, secure with a hair tie then twist the hair before putting it around the top of the ponytail. Secure with bobbin pins all around the sides and spray with hairspray to keep in place.
You can get good quality tights for ballet from Pumpkin Patch for $12 a pair but they are also available at Target for around $6 a pair (although I haven't tried the Target ones)
Give yourself 10 minutes before the class starts to get your little one changed - it doesn't start the class well if you're in a rush
Fold the elasticated part of the tutu over the netting to keep it straight when bringing it to class (if you don't want to bring it on a hanger!)
When washing ballet shoes put a white face washer into them to keep their shape while they are drying

One Baby Ballerina going to the bathroom during class starts an EPIDEMIC!
They all have bad days! Even after over a year of classes and enjoying every one of them, Paige has sometimes just refused to participate sometimes!
Do the hair before you go to Open Day! Don't try and do it when you're there!

Studio Policies - 2011
Please note the following guidelines regarding all classes:
1. Class Placements
Careful placement of students in classes at an appropriate level is taken very seriously. It is extremely important to the proper development and safety of the student. The final placement of student is at the discretion of the Director(s).
2. Uniform
We request that students carefully observe our dress code outlined.
3. Parent viewing policy
It is understandable that when younger students are settling into classes having a Parent/Carer close by can be an important part of instilling confidence in your child. All students are encouraged not to leave the room once class has begun. Please allow for appropriate restroom use prior to class. Very young children will be treated sensitively as the need arises. Preschool children may need a parents attention from time to time for various reasons including bathroom or behavior issues. Please do not leave the waiting area when very young children are in class without informing a Teacher or having another parent responsible during your absence. We make every effort to have all children feel safe and cared for in a loving and inspiring learning environment.
Open Days
Parents, family and friends are invited to watch classes generally once per term.
Dates will be set by the Principal and a notice will be sent out accordingly.
Out of town guests may request to visit at any time throughout the year. No one else is allowed to sit and watch during regular class time.
Please note:
It is the responsibility of the Parent/Carer to supervise babies/siblings who accompany them.
4. Annual Performances/Open Day/Awards/Presentations
All students are offered the opportunity to participate in the Annual Performance/Open Day. Students wishing to participate must commit to attending additional rehearsals during Term 4. All students must attend the dress rehearsals.
5. Working with Children
All Teachers at Central Coast Baby Ballet have a working with children certificate as required by relevant legislation from time to time.
Please note: the nature of dance occasionally requires student-teacher contact for the purposes of placement and correction of technique.
Although Central Coast Baby Ballet will take all due care in the event of accidents, no responsibility by the studio will be accepted.
6. Parents must inform us of any change of address or telephone number.
7. School age children and teens: please practice respect. Students are not to be socializing in a disruptive manner during the class with other students. Please honor your teacher and fellow students by giving full attention and co-operation. You will be advised if we feel any student is not well adjusted to the classroom environment for any reason over time.
8. During class if a student complains of being ill, or sustains an injury and cannot participate, the teacher will notify the parent/caregiver immediately.
9. In Term 4 Parents/Carers are required to notify CCBB in writing if your child/children will be returning the following year. CCBB has a waiting list for classes and this policy is necessary to allow CCBB to enrol new students for the up and coming year.
10. Fee Payments
Payment to be made before the first class in Week 1 or a 20% late fee will apply.
REGULATIONS
1. No smoking is allowed on the premises.
2. A high standard of behaviour and cooperation is expected from students at all times.
3. Chewing gum is not permitted on the premises. Food and drinks are not allowed in the studios. Water bottles permitted.
4. Children are only to leave the studio with parents/carers, or an organised car pool.
5. Belongings and valuables should be labelled and not to be left unattended.
6. We request that children are taken to the toilet before their class commences to avoid disruption to class.
Dance and Ballet Lessons are great fun, however, an important part of class work is developing an attitude of discipline and respect for teachers and fellow students. We trust that following our classroom etiquette will provide an environment whereby classes at Central Coast Baby Ballet will be a pleasure for all concerned.
Please read our Guidelines for Dancers and Parents/Carers Document.

Jewellery-watches, bracelets, necklaces and dangly earrings are not to be worn in class.
Keep in mind, most ballet teachers prefer dancers to wear a cover-up of some sort to and from the studio. This is as simple as a pair of dance pants or a dance skirt paired with a tee shirt or crossover worn over your tutu or leotard. Also, never use your ballet shoes as street shoes. Slip on a pair of sneakers or flip-flops instead, in order to prolong the life of your ballet shoes.
